Yay for OS 11.2 RC1!

I am gonna take a chance and give 11.2RC1 a install on my machine, it will give me a good idea if 11.2 will be right for me as I dont think there is going to be that many new features/bugfixes added at this stage, by RC1 stage you are basically using the final, though the final is usually RC2 not that much different.
Any bugs I see I bet will be fixed so yeh I have no worries on this one.
I dont care, I got a separate /home partition.

I have been running the 11.2 KDE RC 1 on my main machine. I have Intel on-board graphics and 11.2 KDE RC 1 works better than anything else I have ran. There are a few minor bugs but nothing that really effects my day to day routine.

I have ran final releases of other distributions that have not run as well as 11.2 RC 1 and I am pretty happy being able to use desktop effects and enjoy full screen multimedia playback again.I am looking forward to the 11.2 final release.

Alright first complaint, I cant get my monitor to keep my desired resolution.
I want to make my monitor resolution to be 1070x768, but when I set it my mouse disappears!
I also see the display option is gone in 11.2’s yast, why?
What are we going to compete with Ubuntu by having users manually edit xorg to get a better resolution and graphics card settings?
I want my display to be 1070x768, as its my highest res.
And I want that as my default, what now I have to edit xorg just to see my mouse pointer?
Whos the moron who took out the display feature out of YAST?
This makes OS 11.2 LESS user friendly not more, and I hope its fixed for the final.

No, it was not removed.

No, you don’t need to edit xorg.conf manually.

You can still use sax2 as before.

There was a good reason it was removed from YaST, search openFATE/bugzilla/etc. before calling other people “morons” without knowing the backgrounds.

Seems morinic to me, but I did see it in the menus so issue fixed.
But yeh this caught me off guard, as I usually go into YAST and edit my monitor from there.
Another issue I see though is when I do change my settings with SAX2 it goes wonky and comes up with a terminal…
It came back to normal but might put new users off, we may want to warn folks about it on the tutorials.

Intemperate remark withdrawn

Feel free to do so and also don’t forget to add links to the respective sources, explaining why it was removed from YaST.

PS: is there a real question in here, or is it simply a rant? If it’s a rant, I’ll move it for you to the rant area.

it just seems that way

Yeh it was a little rant, sorry.
It just seemed stupid to remove a useful tool from YAST, I mean yes it has its own menu entry but YAST is supposed to be a config center for all major settings.
Including monitor

and what links would they be?
I did search openfate and saw no subject on the matter.

Seems this thread is as good as closed.

I don’t know by heart, but I know I read something about this in one of the sources I mentioned above.

Then search bugzilla.

As oldcpu mentioned some where in a thread about the yast monitor issue.
He states: openSUSE will fix automatically most of the cards now from 11.2 onwards, thats why dev remove it from yast. But if you still have problems, you can set it up through sax2, there is no need to use edit xorg like Ubuntu. Even X11/sax2 is there in the kickoff menu.

Personally for me, its not a big deal to remove that icon from yast. just a normal change. Most of the time we don’t need that icon to use.IMHO.

This fix will work for most of the cards, as it is working.

I shouldn’t say things like this. Intemperate.
Remark withdrawn with apologies.

Doh!! i can’t edit my previous post. Timeout.

Anyway here is the link to the post of oldcpu.

I think it’s been said before that sax is detached form yast for 11.2.

Elapse editing time. Here is a link.
https://features.opensuse.org/307250

Now that is stupid, I mean if you log out and you go back to the old resolution you had as it seems KDE4 does not remember resolution settings.
So with SAX’s GUI gone as they proposed you have to use the terminal, something I thought most “user friendly” distros are supposed to turn away from.
Or manually edit xorg like Ubuntu in some cases.

Alright new issue, sound in flash videos does not work…
I will try adobe’s official flash and see what happens.

Works for me.
How about more detail other than “Not Working”

The way it looks, they still include the sax2 gui so maybe we will see it exist in the final version only that it is not inside yast2. Maybe all who wants this feature has to submit a request to retain it before it’s too late!
