Hi
Normally one can open SuSefirewall2 for Samba with a tool in the Yast firewall settings. One does this:
Yast → Security and Users → Firewall → Allowed Services.
Click the drop-down list labelled “Service to Allow” and select the item
“Samba Server”. Click Add to put it in the list of Allowed Services.
Then click Next and Finish to exit.
That opens the following ports:
UDP 137: netbios-ns [NETBIOS Name Service]
UDP 138: netbios-dgm [NETBIOS Datagram Service]
TCP 139: netbios-ssn [NETBIOS Session Service]
TCP 445: microsoft-ds [Microsoft-DS]
Sadly it doesn’t work I’ve tried it in both Gnome and KDE4 on two different computers.
You can still open those ports with the etc/sysconfig editor in Yast but it’s generally too difficult for average users to do that without a guide. So it’s a no show for Samba for many folks ATM.
I will make a bug report and perhaps a little HowTo to pin at the top of the Networking forum for a while, but first I’m checking to see whether what I’ve encountered is seen also by others using 11.1.
Does anyone have any observations or thoughts on this?
Thanks for any advice
Swerdna
