Yast's /etc/sysconfig editor and kernel settings are empty

after having the various issues people are having with the latest tumbleweed update applying the fix, now I find when I go to yast both /etc/sysconfig editor and kernel settings are useless, no options are shown in the window, as if there was nothing to configure. this happens both in the graphical and text interface.

anyone else experiencing this and is this related with the network/gdm/audio issues of the update?

Apparently,
TW got hit with a pam update that has far reaching consequences which has a good chance of affecting you, also

I’ve notice that one, but it turns out correcting dependencies for 50 or so perl packages that showed up with zypper dup and installing them corrected this. thanks, fortunately it’s all working now.
