yast2 + USB printer

I hope this the correct place for this.
I have a Brother MFC-7840W printer. It is connected by USB to openSuSE 11.2 and 11.3. I have the Brothers drivers installed and YaST2>Hardware>Printers finds several Brother factory drivers. Select any one of them and try Test. Nothing happens! “lsusb” and “hwinfo --usb” see the printer. The required module is shown by lsusb. cups lpq shows cups gave a job number. The printer just shows “Sleep” on its diplay. Cups localhost:631 also fails at the same point.
I think it is an openSuSE USB issue. It does work using Ubuntu 9.# and Fedora 12 Donn aka n5xwb@concast.net

What do you mean by CUPS fails? Does CUPS report that the printer is OK or not? Normally, if it has assigned a job number and nothing has happened, it will say why under Printers’.

if you search on “Brother” in the forum archives, there were some Brother issues a month or so ago
