Yast2 sucks like hell

Hello,

I need your feedback from Yast2.
More than 20 minutes to download “oxygen-icon-theme” with Yast2…what a great record.
Maybe, the next year, i could get KDE 4.2.2 or KDE 4.3

regards

It’s best to just set those two as locked - ridiculous for icons.

hey you can always use zypper instead + it’s not that slow, you’re being ridiculous.

i’ve just launched KDE4-BASIS.ymp from Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.0

all files are downloaded like i have less than a 56K modem

Sounds more like your connection speed than YaST.

The OP’s comments suggest a high speed connection is present. Perhaps consider using mirrors openSUSE Download Mirrors - Overview

Check you have IPv6 disabled, some users find that helpful.

I found I had slow speeds with certain repos yesterday. Seems back to normal today. Give it another try.
These things happen from time to time.

right…you should ask to get the money back you paid for
openSUSE…and, use it to buy a faster connection to the net…

That’s not a yast problem. That’s a problem reaching a
repository location. Sometimes members of the download pool
have no business being a member

Eeheheh… leave the troll at peace (or pieces)
Anyways, I agree that yast software management is not quite good. Doesn’t suck either.
Zypper is not so good either.

Smart is my choice.

I’ve almost always use Yast and I’ve been content with it. Sometimes I use zypper and find that fine as well. It seems to work and work well. There is an occasional slowness but I figure that has more to do with internet traffic than Yast.

And here it is: The only thing that sucks is the title of your post:(. Most reviews for openSUSE 11 highlight YaST as one of the distro’s great features;). My own experience of 11.1 on a modest system is that YaST is very FaST, particularly with use of a local mirror for repo access - as advised in earlier post.

Did it not occur to you that you may have/had an internet based problem?

Try another mirror, if you had searched the forum you’d most likely come across some people having the same problem.
Yast software management itself is just fine, I have had packages download at 1.7MB/s and my connection wont go any faster than that.

And as previously mentioned, disable ip v6 in network settings… this is what causes the majority of internet speed problems posted on these boards.

none issue with DSL line…it’s very fast and reliable.
Yast2 used to be very fast few weeks ago. **** happens since the crash of storage area within Suse infrastructure.
