I just migrated to OpenSuse 1.3. There were some problems with the CD I installed from. But
rpm --biulddb
solved most of it. Trouble is, Yast crashes when I try to install packages on it. I can install with zypper with no sign of trouble, but the Yast window simply disappears every time it starts loading a package.
you realy should not use a broken cd. have you checked the md5sum? if this is ok maybe you need a new cd/dvd drive.
do you even know what rpm --builddb does? i am only wondering why this should fix a broken installation?
A couple of reboots, and the system seems to work just fine. Yast2 works when I invoke it is root. I do get the following:
** (y2controlcenter-gnome:4081): WARNING **: error accessing /apps/yast-control-center/cc_exit_shell_on_action_start [Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash.
