yast2 backup problems

Hi, I’m having problems with yast2 backup not running automatically.

rpm version is yast2-backup-2.15.7-0.1

  1. There is an entry in /etc/crontab.d/yast2-backup-1
  2. The /var/log/messages reports that it runs

I’ve traced the problem down to the following script
/usr/lib/YaST2/bin/backup_cron

When I run this from the cmd line as “root” with my profile
i.e. /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/backup_cron “profile=Full_System_Backup”
it runs for a few seconds and returns to the command line without creating the required tar file. I also cannot see any processes with ps -ef. So there must be some kind of error.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards
Steven

I’ve tried to make it work manually and it doesn’t create a .tar either. Have you tried creating a manual backup, and does that work?

What version of SUSE?

This feature worked in version 10 of SuSE, but it looks like it is broken in 11 (on my machines, it fails on OpenSUSE 11.0, and also on the Enterprise Desktop 11). Novell has been notified and I was told a bug report was submitted.

Thats good to know (not that I use it). I’ve seen a few posts recently concerning YaST System Backup issues.

Mine’s 11.1 Gnome. Suppose everyone should really indicate that in their signature…
