Hey. I’m just getting here from Gentoo Linux. I have used SuSE when it was version 9 and loved it, but versions 10 and 11 have left some very bad impressions on me. YaST is failing miserably to do its job. Something that’s kinda annoying is that the proxy settings dialog doesn’t open up anymore if I click the proxy button, and it is VERY annoying. But that’s for another thread.
My problem is that I configure my sound card properly, with the proper model (intel-hda sound card model asus-a7j) using YaST. I clicked yes when it asked me to reset my sound system, and checked my dmesg log. It said that the proper model was selected and everything was fine. But when I clicked finish in the sound dialog, it “saved settings.” But it obviously didn’t save my settings, because all of the configurations were deleted. The boxes for the options were all empty, and dmesg says that the card is an unknown model.
This is why I hate configuration tools. They always tend to do this stupidness. I’d still be using Gentoo right now, but I can’t deal with source code right now going into my third semester in college. But this is actually eating up more time than maintaining Gentoo did. >:(
