Yast software instalation module hangs

I’ve tried to install mplayer and gflash in order to view some .avi and .flv files from my camera and from the net. Didn’t work, somehow codecs seem to be missing. so I figured I’d deinstall and see if there is some sort of multimedia package in the software installation module of yast.
But now that module hangs whenever it gets to the point of loading installed repositories or checking for them.
I’m quite new to this, so how do I fix that? Boot from DVD and use the “fix system” function?

Thanks from Munich

last sentence in english would be something like:
the system managemente is locked by the application with the PID …
Close the application before trying again

Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums

Quit the updater applet in the panel and then try yast.

That didn’t do it. Yast starts, but the software installation module hangs. How do I close the application with the PID… ?

Michael

quit the darn thing and do not allow it to start at boot.
reboot

now try

bingo.
Thank you very much. Problem is fixed.

Michael

Great stuff!
