YaST signal 6

I am constantly having to reload my system for one reason. I get the stupid Yast signal 6 and its impossible to fix. It always happens with regular updates. I never know when or how it happens but it happens at least a few times a year. This has been happening since as far back as I can remember. I started using SUSE at ver 8 and I can remember it happening back then. Whats the deal? Is there a way to completely remove yast and reinstall it so I don’t have to reload my system again. I am getting a little sick of constantly dealing with this exact same problem. The error I get when I click on anything in yast is.

terminate called after throwing an instance of ‘YUIPluginException’
what(): Couldn’t load plug-in qt
YaST got signal 6 at YCP file Wizard.ycp:720
/sbin/yast2: line 431: 27851 Aborted $ybindir/y2base $module “$@” “$SELECTED_GUI” $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS

I have never seen it to my recollection, but you say that you are
getting it for years - so your system must be consistently special or
different.

So, what openSUSE version are you using?
What desktop do you use?
What repos do you have configured?
Do you install anything else?
Any configuration you do?

Please run and paste here:

cat /etc/SuSE-release
zypper lr --details

Please paste it complete, from initial prompt to final prompt, using
code tags. Advanced forum editor, ‘#’ button.

I have had this problem with multiple systems ever since I started using OpenSUSE. It randomly happens during updates. Its more likely to happen if I let updates go for a few weeks and gets worse and almost guaranteed if updates are not done over a month. I always update with zypper.

Edit: Some repos are there because of troubleshooting this problem. The system is so hosed at this point Its more then likely going to get reloaded soon anyway. This is the primary reason I ever reload my system. I love OpenSUSE but I am getting a little tired of updates breaking it. Also yast hasn’t worked for a few months.

I always use zypper to update. I haven’t bothered with a bug report because its effected multiple OpenSUSE versions. Its literally getting so common I almost expect the system to break after updates. Most of the time its only yast that breaks but sometimes the system doesn’t boot after an update. Its so regular that I put updates off for months at a time and that just makes the problem more likely.

YaST is under heavy migration and you seem to be using factory version.
Also 12.1 has expired(Lifetime - openSUSE Wiki) . You should do a clean of either 12.2 or 12.3

do you realise that you are not running openSUSE stable version but factory version?

You’re missing the Qt plugin.
To install it run this:

sudo zypper in libyui-qt-pkg4

or if you use Yast from the Yast:Head repo you need “libyui-qt-pkg5”:

sudo zypper in libyui-qt-pkg5

But you really should clean up your repo list. You’re having are several Factory repos in there, that’s bound to cause trouble.
And you shouldn’t have both Packman and VLC repos!
If you want to use the latest KDE, maybe it’s time to upgrade to 12.2 or 12.3?

i’d say that it is amazing anything works with those repos enabled!

(apparently) you may not realize that every repo with “factory” in
its name is the NEXT version of openSUSE–and is probably untested
and filled with problems…so you have a Frankenstein made from 12.1
and 13.1 code, at least…and, depending on how long you have fed it
from factory you may (probably) have code from 12.1 and 12.3

how could it be possible to have openSUSE experience all the way from
version 8 and make such unnecessary trouble for yourself??

you seem to have constant problems with your repo technique…so,
with the others here i encourage you to change yours (unlike you, i
never expect an update to cause problems…and, they very seldom
do…but, i follow the sage advice in the paragraph beginning with
“IMPORTANT” in this post http://tinyurl.com/33qc9vu and, i have
never injected testing quality software into my stable system, never.)

I told you to use code tags. You did not.

This is unreadable. URLS have been shortened, so I can’t read where they
point to. And the text is wrapped around. I told you use code tags for a
reason!

I can not read this.

However, it appears that you are mixing packages from factory and 12.1,
and that’s an absolute no-no.

Well, it is something you do, because I don’t know anybody having this
particular problem.

Please repost what I requested inside code tags and I’ll try a
recommendation.

Read the first paragraph of this message again and follow it carefully.
