Yast Printer Setup can not add my HP Laserjet 6p printer.

Hi all.

I have a problem: Yast Printer Setup can not add my HP Laserjet 6p printer. It is connected via USB-to-Parallel Adapter (Laserjet is a printer with parallel port).
That was working out of the box with all old / previous Leap Distros, but suddenly, doesn’t work in Leap 15.3 as of now. Printer Setup refuses to detect my printer.
By the way, and hp-setup (hplip) either…

How can I troubleshoot this?

Thanks,
Vadim.

Is the USB to parallel adapter enumerated with driver?

It should show up in this output…

usb-devices

Is the printer port enumerated when the CUPS backend is run manually like this?

/usr/lib/cups/backend/parallel

This may also be of help…

Thanks.

lsusb and usb-devices doesn’t show my usb-to-parallel adapter. It’s a LogiLink UA0054A model. Maybe there is no more support in Leap 15.3 of it? It worked definitely in 15.2 and older.
Which chipset is supported by Leap 15.3, what should I buy as a new adapter to try out?

Have a nice day,
Vadim.

ps.
By the way, the parallel-printer-support was already installed in my 15.3 system.

Can you at least provide the chipset details?

Also post

lsusb

No, there is no lsusb output for adapter. I don’t know the chipset but feel, that adapter is physically broken. I have already ordered a replacement (but also which the chipset in the new one is unknown).

Thanks again,
Vadim.

Well, yes if the device is not even enumerated in the lsusb output, then it is not functioning.

Yes, it worked as expected!
Today arrived a new adapter and straightaway it worked all. I have now a fully functional old HP LaserJet Printer.

Thanks to all that helped me.

Greetings,
Vadim.

PS.
If somebody has an interest, to become lsusb or dmesg outputs, I’ll be happy to do it, just write here.

Thanks for the update. Good to to read that the new adapter is working as expected.
