yast - out of memory

hi,

lost the ability in yast to ‘read partitioning’, one of the cpu’s goes
to 100% then failure report, both in boot loader and partitioning

Out of memory!
YaST got signal 11 at YCP file /usr/share/YaST2/modules/Storage.rb:2343
/sbin/yast2: line 431: 1278 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module
"$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS

last update < yast2-3.0.4-1.1.x86_64 > yast2-3.0.5-1.1.x86_64

going back to yast2-3.0.1 made no difference

anyone else seeing this anomaly?

anyone have a work around? or is this finger trouble on this install?

cheers

nb. openSUSE 13.1 M4 installed on external usb HDD
all ok with openSUSE 12.3 on internal sata HDD
