this frustrates me I want to get into Yast in order to do some changes but it only works one out of ( if I am lucky) 30 tries the only way it starts right away is after a fresh reboot. is this a bug
- Shadowmeph,

Uwe
no error messages that I noticed ,that this also happens with anything that needs my password except of course for any terminal commands. where do I find the logs to see if there are any errors

That’s a bizarre one. Care to change your root password to something very simple for a moment? Just to rule out a failing keyboard.
Uwe
ok noob here how do I do that>?
Sometimes this happens when the updater (YOU) is running in the background.
(I always turn off this feature since 4 years ago)
where is that feature and how do I turn it off?
If you are running kde it is usually seen in the panel. it is been a long time since enabling it so can’t help much. I think it is called updater now if memory serves. I only run the update manually.
On a side. Can you still open yast2 but the software management fails to run?
I remember I run the command as root “killall y2base” before when yast2 software management fails and works after.
it seems to be working more often then not now it works about 50 % of the time it must be somthing that I am doing , I have only been using Linux for about a year off and on but for the past 4 month as it is my only OS but I just switched from Ubuntu which is different in a few ways

Okay, I guess that rules out a faulty keyboard then.
Open a console and type “kdesu yast2”. Does it work now (more often)?
Now:
Open a console, become root (su) and enter “yast2” without the quotes. Does it work now (more often)?
