I’ve loaded suse 11.1 64 with kde 3.5.10 on a box I’m building for a
friend. Yast is much slower than 11? It is on a slower computer amd
3800+ x2 1g ram vs amd 6400+ x2 8g ram {with suse11} but I don’t think
that would make this that much slower? Anyone else have thoughts on
this. I’m thinking of loading suse 11 to see diff. on same computer

Hi,
Yes, I have the same feeling, specially this:
If you go to the Software Manager and choose Package Groups, it gives you a list of the different groups.
Clicking on “All Packages” takes many minutes to show the whole list of packages (in the mean time you can’t do anything with it). Really it is almost unusable and very annoying.
On top, despite of having a relatively powerful desktop, the new “desktop folder” is also incredibly slow (it takes about 7 sec to launch firefox from it, versus <3 from the kmenu).
I have been a great fan of opensuse, but this release has been less than impressive.
Do you mean the Yast front-end or the software manager module?
Either one shouldn’t be. If you mean the SM, are you on a slow network
connection? Do you have replicated /too many repositories added? If you
click the “ignore update” button it still loads slowly?
I confirm this one: selecting All packages really takes ages on my dual
core with 4GB of ram. In total contrast with the package manager
performance in 11.0!
