Yast Freezes When Collecting Hardware Information

I have a Dell XPS 15 (9560) running Tumbleweed. Whenever I use Yast2 to try and view/collect hardware info it freezes the OS. Sometime it makes to 5% complete, sometimes 25%, other times 50%. But prior to completion it locks the OS and I can’t move the mouse, can’t kill the app via alt-F4. Can’t even use the F1-F7 buttons to get a terminal up to Killall Yast2. My only solution is a hard reboot by pressing the power button. I wonder if there’s a way to diagnose this issue and potentially correct?

BTW… I can collect it via hwinfo via a terminal with no problems.

Thanks.

Check you repo list (zyyper lr -d). See if you have any any specail repos or repos of other OS version. These problems generally are do to mixed versions.

Although I’m not sure what software repos have to do with hardware I checked and there is nothing out of the ordinary here. This is a brand new TW install (a few days ago) on my laptop. So I haven’t had enough time to customize (or mess things up) as far as I know. Below are my repos.

|1| download.nvidia.com-tumbleweed| nVidia Graphics Drivers|
|---|---|---|
|2| openSUSE-20200407-0| openSUSE-20200407-0|
|3| packman.inode.at-openSUSE_Tumbleweed| Packman Repository|
|4| repo-debug| openSUSE-Tumbleweed-Debug|
|5| repo-non-oss| openSUSE-Tumbleweed-Non-Oss|
|6| repo-oss| openSUSE-Tumbleweed-Oss|
|7| repo-source| openSUSE-Tumbleweed-Source|
|8| repo-update| openSUSE-Tumbleweed-Update|

It has to do with how the software detects the hardware. In any case it looks like you have a clean install so not a mixed repo problem. Are you using zypper dup to update. zypper up may not fully update a TW install.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I always use zypper dup to update all of my TW installs.
