You read the /var/log/zypper.log. E.g.

grep Detected /var/log/zypper.log

Thanks to arvidjaar and Sauerland. Both your commands return a lot of text that I can’t understand. Sauerland’s command grep -i mirrorlist /var/log/zypper.log produces many pages of output along the lines of:

Thanks for all the help and advice. I just tried zypper verify, and whether or not that accomplished anything, I am no longer getting the problem.

This (i.e. sudo zypper verify; sudo zypper ref) worked for me, too. I was getting the Digest verification failed error on repo-oss.

A subsequent sudo zypper up ran OK though with a few 404 errors which were nicely handled by “trying next mirror”

Now to get KDE to speak English rather than Mercan…
