When I try to install opensuse on my pc, the installer display “Yast cant modify/remove your partitions”, so I cannot create my partitions table properly and as a result the Grub cannot been installed too.
Note that I’ve installed this version of opensuse (11.1) before on my computer without problems !
Any ideas please.
i forgot to mention that I can now however install opensuse by creating partitions on windows for it, then insatlling opensuse on them. But I cannot create a swap partition and Grub still cannot be installed.
Not really, because you have not supplied any relevant info.
Take a screenshot or give us
fdisk -l
from a su terminal, so we can at least see something. Didn’t you actually get any error messages?
Or try Parted Magic to do the Partitioning.
I inderstand, this is exactly the error message that the yast installer displays at the begining of the installation:
“The partioning on disk /dev/sda is not readable by the partioning tool parted, wich is used to change the partition table.
You can use the partioning on disk /dev/sda as they are. You can format them and assign mount points to them, but you cannot add, edit, resize or remove partitions from that disk with this tool.”
the next error message after I mount the partition myself is shown while configuring the Grub loader:
“grub>setup --stage2 = /boot/grub/stage2 --force-lba (hd0,5)(hd0,5)
Error 17: cannot mount selected partition”
I’m sorry, but I cannot make much of your story. You’re posting bits and pieces that I cannot match. I think you better define the problem first
