YaST can no longer manage network devices with NetworkManage

Is anyone else able to edit network devices in YaST while using NetworkManager in openSUSE 11.1? When I try I get the following error

Warning

Network is currently controlled by NetworkManager and its settings cannot be edited by YaST.

To edit the settings, use NetworkManager connection editor, or switch the network setup meth
od to Traditional method with ifup.

That is the way it is supposed to work. You can have one or the other.

If you want traditional control, YaST => Network Devices => Network
Settings => Global Options Tab.

I know it was possible to edit the devices in past releases. I need to be able to configure my bridge network so it will work with both my LAN and WLAN card but I can’t do that as long as my system is using NetworkManager.

Then switch NetworkManager off. You cannot have both!!!

I suppose a simple solution if you really want to use network manager might be to switch it off and use ifup whilst you set up your bridging, then revert back to network manager once the bridging’s successfully set up

I guess I’m going to have to temporally turn off NetworkManager, but why can’t it just been left alone in 11.0 and 10.3 and 10.2 editing network devices through YaST was possible even if you were using NetworkManager. I want NetworkManager because it makes using my LAN and WLAN easier than ifup does.

I just had to fiddle with my network settings. My issue was a little different than yours. But, I think you can turn off NetworkManager just while you adjust your settings and turn it back on again before you leave yast.
