I have OpenSuse LIFE 13.1 64-bit. My Yahoo Mail has recently been fouled up. Instead of the usual basic/full version, I now have some mobile-only setup, which is lousy. I contacted Yahoo, but they say they show me with basic/full. Out of
curiosity, I switched over to Windows and Yahoo Mail is fine. SO, I’m guessing some Suse update caused this. Any ideas? Thanks!
I am seeing pretty much the same mail interface (for Yahoo) on opensuse as I see on Windows, though I rarely use Windows.
Yahoo did provide us a “new improved” interface a few months ago. And I would much prefer the old interface. The new one seems crippled, though more oriented toward mobile devices. But it is the same on opensuse as on Windows. I use firefox for this (both on Windows and on opensuse).
Appreciate the input, but the new interface you’re talking about is the one I lost. Doesn’t sound like you’re having the same problem. Maybe I’ll try reinstalling firefox to see if that does anything.

That should not work.
Contrary to Windows, on Linux when you reinstall a package, you keep the
old config, so the problem remains - except when it is a missing system
component.
Instead of that, you can create a new user, log in as that user, and
try. Or, create an alternate new profile in FireFox.

Yes, that’s good advice.
In researching how to add a new Firefox profile, I came across the reset to original config option and that did the trick. Thanks!

Do you have an add on to override the “user agent” setting? Or did you
change that setting yourself?
Because it can have that effect.

No to both questions . . not even sure what you’re talking about. I did have to reinstall addons and everything’s working fine.

There is a setting in FF that defines the string that the browser uses to identify itself to sites; say:
Linux / Firefox 29: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0
If you change it to:
Android / Firefox 29: Mozilla/5.0 (Android; Mobile; rv:29.0) Gecko/29.0 Firefox/29.0
your browser identifies itself as being on a mobile device, and thus it gets the mobile version from sites, if available.
There are addons to intentionally change this string at will. I use it when I’m on the move with a mobile phone tether, to reduce traffic.

Good to know for future reference. I don’t own a cell phone or laptop/tablet, so there’s no need to change it myself. But, if another Suse update triggers the change, I’ll know what to look for. Thanks a lot!

No, no suse (official) update will trigger that change.
By default, firefox comes with a particular string. YOU, or an add-on
YOU add, can change that.
One usage is the one I described. Another is connecting to some sites
that do not serve pages unless they think you are running windows
Iexplorer, so the trick is to change that identifier string. So there
are several addons that allow people to change the string as wished,
often from a droplist. It is possible to click on a different one that
the one wished for, like wanting to disguise as “chrome”, and selecting
the mobile chrome sting instead, or another string that has that effect
on yahoo.
