Xsane does not have permissions for scanner

For some reason xsane no longer has permissions to use my HP scanner. I think this may have started after the kernel upgrade earlier this week. I have reinstalled the all-in-one device. The printer works. The scanner works with during Yast test. From the terminal window scanimage -T with root permissions passes. In the user account the message is no SANE devices found. Xsane works logging into root. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

By logging into root, I mean logging out and logging in as user root.

Add the user to the ‘lp’ group.

The new kernel for 13.2 is broken

In grub menu select advanced and boot to the older kernel until the fix comes

This worked for me. I’d lost sound as well. The recent update wiped out permissions, apparently. I’m a flyin’-by-the-seat-of-my-pants user, so here’re some steps for those of my ilk:

YaST->User and Group Management->(select user, then the “Edit” button)–>select “Details” tab->in the Additional Groups list, check boxes for “audio” and “lp”.->Click “OK”

You might want to log out and back in. This restored access (permissions) for my scanner and my sound card.

That’s the one!

Thanks for the help. Adding the user lp fixed the problem.
