This is new… You say video works ok? I tried Kaffeine, Mplayer, and VLC and ALL of them cause my X Server to crash… violently! When I try to open the video I just get thrown back to the login screen. /var/log/kdm.log reports a segmentation fault but little other useful information. Have you ever experienced this with this card?

Glad the solution was so easy.

The machine runs 0.2.905 which does not show that problem neither in
windowed mode nor fullscreen, I think I have not tested the fullscreen
video with 0.2.904 only windowed video if I remember correctly, I can
say nothing about vlc.
If you want to give the 0.2.905 a try you can without much trouble make
a rpm yourself by fetching the src for 0.2.905 and the src rpm for the
openchrome driver and adjust the spec file. If you can wait until
tomorrow I can build it this evening on my obs account and post the link
here so that you can try it from software.opensuse.org

I was about to give it a go myself, maybe learn something in the process, but you beat me to it! Yeap, fullscreen video looks great in both Mplayer and Kaffeine, although VLC still has some issues (colors get all jumbled up, though this occurred with the fbdev driver as well). Anyway, my immediate problem is solved, since the system looks and feels much better than before. You have my gratitude for all your assistance and the time you spent helping me out!
Just a thought, if you spare the time, maybe a quick run through the process of how to do this would be useful for future releases of the driver so that one can build it on his own…
But only if your are in the mood for quick tutorials!
Thanks once again!

Why don’t you simply refer to xorg-x11-driver-video from home:jobermayr?

That lead to a black screen when starting X. Since it is not my machine
and I had it only for a few hours, not enough time to find out what the
problem was. Compiling the openchrome driver rpm local on that machine
was a matter of a few minutes and lead to a working X out of the box.
I will come back on your rpm (which I understand has drm support) the
next time I can access the laptop.

Just as a feedback for the moment. I did not forget you, but feel a bit
sick these days, so I reduce my participation on the forum for the
moment. I will come back to it in a few days.
