xrandr and Dual Head Mode

Ive been trying to figure this one out on my own with no luck.

Im trying to get my tv connected to my laptop so that it works in dual head mode, doesnt really matter what side it appears at, left or right.

After connecting the cable and running xrandr -q I get :

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 800, maximum 1280 x 1280
VGA connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
   1152x768 54.8
   1024x768 60.0*
   800x600 60.3 56.2
   640x480 59.9
   1024x768_60 60.0
LVDS connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 331mm x 207mm
   1280x800 60.0*+
   1152x768 54.8
   1024x768 60.0
   800x600 60.3 56.2
   640x480 59.9
TMDS-1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
   1280x960 59.9 +
   1280x720 60.0 +
   1024x768 60.0
   800x600 60.3 56.2
   640x480 60.0
TV disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

As you can see the resolution on my laptop is 1280x800 and there is a limited amount of resolutions availiable on the TV. The only one that works is 1024x768 and I have no idea why…

I need the res on the tv to be at least equal to the one on the laptop, makes it easier if I do need it in clone mode.

I cant find anyway to:

  1. Add to the availiable resolutions for the TV

and

  1. Increase the maximum resolution so that xrandr will actually support xinerama mode, as its set at 1280 x 1280 at the moment.

Cheers for looking!
