I’m running 11.2 with KDE 4.4. Ever since updating KDE to 4.4, Xorg runs flat out when I’m not using the computer. As long as I am using the computer, all is fine. When I stop using the machine and the screen blanks, I can hear the CPU fan going full blast and can feel heat from the CPU running full blast. When I unblank the screen and start using the machine the system monitor shows Xorg running at above 100% cpu. Xorg immediately goes down to its usual 3 or 4%. In the little time I have before that happens, I can’t see anything else out of the ordinary running.
This did not happen under KDE 4.3. The machine is a 64 bit AMD machine with ATI Radeon 9200 graphics. Oddly enough, when I updated the machine to 11.3 this did not happen. I had to downgrade to 11.2 because the Samsung laser printer driver will not run on AMD machines with 11.3 due to a glibc 2.11 conflict (so I’m told). I would like to fix this problem as the machine runs too hot when the cpu goes full blast for long periods.
