XMarks buggered Firefox

Installed OpenSuSe 12.1 on a 64-bit Lenovo laptop.

Then ran X-Marks to transfer bookmarks from my other 5 virtual machines.

Ran just great - bookmarks transferred but on opening Firefox this morning had the error message

“Could not initialise the application’s security component. The most probable cause is problems with files in your browser’s profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard drive is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue to use this browser session, you might see incorrect browser behaviour when accessing security features.”

Too true - only opens blank tabs.

How do I rectify?

Thanks in advance

  1. do you have read/write permissions to the directory where the browser
    profiles are stored? (probably ~/.mozilla/firefox/[randomNumber].default
i think you could check with this in a user terminal:

ls -hal ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default

  1. is the partition where openSUSE is installed “full or close to full”?
that you could check in a user terminal with

df -hlT /home

here, not having either of those problems and not having used X-Marks i
cannot duplicate your symptoms, nor have i seen others with them (see:
https://www.google.com/search?q=site:forums.opensuse.org+“Could+not+initialise+the+application’s+security+component.”
)–i therefore conclude the problem is not with openSUSE, but rather
with something done by X-Marks, and suggest you need to get with them to
learn how to undo what was done…and/or redo it, correctly…

google leads me here: http://www.xmarks.com/about/help

let us know how you get on…

  1. Yes!
  2. About 108Gb empty
  3. Definitely X Marks at fault.

Will follow up.

It is preferable that you post the commands we requested together with
the output they produced, not your interpretation.
