Please post output of:

zypper lr -d

The files that are said to be missing are in the “xine-ui” package. Installing that should reduce the messages to zero, and make you able to continue.

That’s far too much. A true mess. First, there’s a lot of duplicates, second there’s lots of experimental repos. Chances of conflicts and corruptions are huge.
The ones you need are only the basic four, your #s 23, 28, 30 and 31. By now I bet you have multimedia packages installed from both the Packman repo (which is good) and the videolan repo (which is not good). Please don’t tell me that the multimedia guide suggested this.

A good way to install things from other repos, is to add the repo, install, then disable or remove the repo. That way other packages in it will not conflict with your installed ones.

Yup, I always preferred videolan and that is the first thing I do after fresh Linux-Foss install. I am new to suse and discovering it as of now. In buntu adding repositories were easy but here I am lost may be due to kde. I will kill all other repositories and see what I get to deal with.

Thanks,

David

Once done so, start the Software installer, select the repo view, select Packman, and click the “Switch system packages to…” option on the top right.
Hint: take care to install “libxine-codecs”, accept vendor changes, “k3b-codecs”. ditto, and “ffmpeg”. That should bring support for known formats.

Below is the new thing -

I’ve retained nVidia for various reasons. I’ve not seen hardware driver install feature in suse yet.

Much better. This should at least avoid conflicting multimedia packages. Follow the instructions above and things should work fine.

Well I am trying to do that but it is asking me to remove Gparted, bleachbit and all the important stuff that I got running. What should I do? remove these or keep them.

This is a consquence of all thise repos
It is why I asked you for that repo info in another thread, when you said kwrite didn’t work.

I would close Yast and try from a su - terminal

zypper dup

allow it to switch everything.

Then post back when you are done

I have to pop out for a bit but will be back;)

Here it is -

linux-lst5:/home/david # zypper dup

Right, on it now. Will post the output.

In all honesty. It’ll take some cleaning up, you may not even realize it there will probably be a number of orphaned packages.
My gut feeling, seeing that original repo list - would be to say re-install. Then just follow this:
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums

But after ‘dup’ has finished, reboot.
Then - if your repo list as it was in post #7, then do this from su - terminal

zypper dup -r 5

@avenuemax: Just replied to your PM. Follow Caf’s advice; I hesitated, but when I saw the gigantic repo list, my first thought was ‘re-install’ too.

yep, reinstall is IMO the most logical thing to do as step one…

step two is read more documentation prior to wandering around
aimlessly trying stuff until it is broken again…

ATTENTION avenuemax the thread you followed was begun in June
2008…which is so old it can’t breathe…

please, in the future make sure the info you are following is for the
version you have installed…remember, we have a new version here
every eight months!! and some of the stuff that worked on 11.2 is
pretty much sure to BREAK 11.3, so keep up (or do like me, i’m still
on the system that the June 2008 posting was talking about)

note: documentation is NOT forum posts for out of support versions.

Hi,

Cleaning up wont be a problem. Just need firefox alive. I tend to do a lot of reverse engineering(my niche) and this I will fix for sure.

Yeah, I figured it out in the process. I am still under buntu/solaris influence, will need a couple of days to understand the ways. :sarcastic:
