XHCI error on liveusb on new Lenovo laptop

Hi folks,

I bought me a new laptop - a Lenovo Thinkpad E450. It has the following gear:
Intel Core i5-5200U
Intel HD Graphics 5500
Wireless LAN adapters Intel 7265 BT ACBGN

Looks like, but don’t quote me on it, that the usb controller is Intel Wildcat Point-LP USB xHCI Controller - http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201411-16166/

Have disabled UEFI secure boot.

When I insert my liveusb device and boot up the Live KDE image - openSUSE-13.2-KDE-Live-x86_64.iso all is fine until the splash screen where loading stalls. Hitting Esc shows the following:

xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0 Setup ERROR: set context command for slot 1
usb 2-3: hub failed to enable device, error -22

So can’t boot into live image to actually play any further. Note that the Bios has an option to alter USB 3 mode. I think that all USB devices on the laptop have the potential to act as USB 3.0, but can also be fixed to USB 2.0. Have not tried disabling USB 3.0. Sorry if this is confusing - new to me too.

Any advice would be great.

In the interests of those who land on this page with a similar problem…

The issue is solved for live images with kernel 3.19. I have loaded Ubuntu 15.04 on the machine and it worked fine. I subsequently grabbed a Tumbleweed image with Kernel 3.19 and it too loaded fine. Probably hardware compatibility issue for the Intel Corporation Wildcat Point-LP USB xHCI Controller with earlier kernels.

With the release version of openSUSE 13.2 I was able to get it to boot by select “Disabled” mode for USB 3.0 in the BIOS. Obviously I could install this version with USB 3.0 disable, upgrade to a newer kernel and then revert the USB 3.0 mode to “Auto”. But for now I am playing with Ubuntu 15.04 because it is better able to handle the higher pixel screen. Waitng for Tumbleweed Plasma 5.3 before reverting to SUSE.

Thanks folks.
