At my company we are moving from windows to Linux and we choose openSUSE 13.2 with the KDE desktop to be installed in all computers. Sadly we have two very old computers (with low memory and disk) that run the KDE desktop very slow. So, I decide to install openSUSE 13.2 with XFCE as the desktop. Everything went well, I configured all the variables related to SAMBA, Windows Domain, Authentication an so on but, and I hope not to have miss something here, when I boot and in the initial screen, I can’t choose to login in the domain, I don’t have the option to do that as I do in the others machines with the KDE desktop (I only have two options: XFCE and IceW).
So, how can I tell on the XFCE’s initial screen that I want log on in the domain. Or did I miss something?
Logging in to an Active Directory (or LDAP) Domain is unusually easy on openSUSE and is done using YAST which is part of the base OS and not related to any Desktop choice.
If you’re migrating from Windows,
Take a stroll through YAST (it’s one of your menu choices). You’ll find many of the things you used to find in a Windows Control Panel will be in YAST and much, much more.
You should find a YAST applet that will walk you through joining a Domain.
