It is becoming more than a little irritating to see the ‘keyring’ nag pop up every time a browser or Thunderbird starts.
How do I turn it off?
better yet,
Is it ok to remove it using YaST?
I don’t even know what password it is asking for, root, mine, my wife’s.
Are you using auto-login on this machine Bill? Usually gnome-keyring is unlocked on login.
Anyway, this might work for you…
rm ~/.local/share/keyrings/*
When next prompted for a keyring password, leave the password field blank (simply click ‘Continue’ and then again ‘Continue’, thus agreeing to unsafe storage). That disables the keyring password for good.

No not set for auto-login. I still use that laptop occasionally.
Keyring doesn’t have ‘continue’ for Xfce, it uses unlock.
I did the ‘rm’ and it didn’t work. Next time it came up, I clicked ‘unlock’ and the ‘unlock’ again. It kept telling me ‘wrong password, and I had to cancel it to,get past it.

Oddly, my account and root’s don’t nag with the keyring pop up.
Somehow I managed to turn it off and can’t remember how.
and before someone jumps me about logging as root, I DON’T unless I absolutely have to.

I know the mantra, and in fact I will often jump in and do just that (nag-nag-nag :P), but in the end it is your own system and you can do with it what you want.
As long as you understand the risks associated, it is a conscious choice. I have done the same thing at one time or another, although VERY rarely.
… but, in the end, nothing can go wrong that I could not deal with.
Still trying to get a handle on this Bill… which browser triggers the keyring here? Chrome?
Fire up ‘seahorse’ (Passwords and Keys) and see what is locked there perhaps. Normally the requisite keyrings should be unlocked when the user logs in, but perhaps something pertinent is remaining locked?
