XFCE: can't change screen brightness

on xubuntu the brightness slider should be under xfce4-power-manager on the panel and i can’t find it in any way. i’m using tumbleweed 20201105, if you need more information please ask

Hi,
I never use that feature but in my power manager in xfce, there is something called
“brightness step count” is that what you are you looking for?

I am testing the xfce 4.16 in tumbleweed so it might be different in xfce 4.14.

where do you see that option?

In power manager under “buttons” at the bottom.

i dont have such option, i can only change settings related to the screen and the system. there’s nothing about brightness

Sorry I can’t help you with that, like I said I’m on xfce 4.16
I will try to go to my other xfce on opensuse 15.1 if I can see anything helpful.

thank you, does it have anything to do with my drivers? because im having other problems related to the screen

I can’t answer you with that, there maybe someone here that can assist you with the driver question.
I booted the opensuse 15.1 with xfce 4.14 and i can confirm that the feature is not in the Power Manager Settings.
Do you have the brightness key in your keyboard and tried using it? Or use the Fn + arrow in your keyboard.
Sorry to not help you much as I never used it.

no, the keys dont work

what about other people using xfce 4.14? are you guys able to change the screen brightness in any way?

Hi,
If you are using desktop according to the power manager online help, you will not have the LCD brightness, etc.
I am assuming you are using a laptop that’s why you are looking for that brightness feature.
Looking in yast2 xfce packages, there is a package called patterns-xfce-xfce_laptop could be the one missing in your installation.

yes im on laptop, i just checked and i already have it installed. i’ll keep looking on other forums, thank you for your time

also, when i try to run xbacklight i get this
No protocol specified
No outputs have backlight property
