I just LOVE OpenSuse… and right now I’m trying to establsih a virtualization of Windows under Xen, which naturally comes with the current distribution.
Now, when trying to create the Server, the following error occurs:
Nope, I don´t mind. I´m glad ro share it with you.
See, Xen Virtualization is installed if you enable the Hypervisor Tools which naturally come with the current OpenSuse distribution. Because that problem really bothered me I did launch a huge search on various forums and I´ve asked professionals in different IRCs about it.
The conclusion I´ve extracted (and has been told to me many times)is the following:
Virtualization under xen ONLY makes real sense if you want to run MULTIPLE servers on one computer, which are expected to run at the same time and accomplishing difficult tasks. And right here you see the reason why XEN brakes up: It is simply not meant to run on a plain laptop (in my case it´s the newest T61p from Lenovo).
Through comparison of capabilities (one of the most important aspects in my point of view) as well as program requirements I´ve found that for emulating one or up to 1000 operating systems (heheh…) on a single computer I´ve found that VMware is the very best choice. Now what I did was to uninstall the Xen kernel completely and setting up VMware on the upgraded kernel that I already had. I must admit: I´ve never seen any program for virtualization that runs that smoothly, is so easy to configure and as so many capabilities.
So if you don´t mind switching - I highly recommend to give Vmware](www.vmware.com) in the current version a try… it really is worth the effort.
It runs fine on workstations, laptops and a lot of other things - the only thing it benefits from is a VT enabled CPU as it allows unmodified OS to run on it.
