Xen Install & Disk Partitioning...

Hi All,

Could someone please provide me a link or online reference on how to get started with Xen under OpenSuSE 11.4 or 12.1?

I tried Visualization a long time ago with VMWare and remember a lot of advice (perhaps obsolete by now) on partitioning a disk such that each guest OS can reside in its own partition etc. but for the life of me, I cannot find a single reference/HOWTO/Tutorial or documentation that explains how to do that with Xen.

Perhaps it’s the marketing droids who are drowing out the real technical details because almost all top hits from search engines lead me to posts about the benefits of virtualization blah blah… but I have yet to come across anything that answers the very basics of getting started.

Thanks!

Xen could use a good dose of documentation, I agree. But Xen is very nasty to setup. Once setup it apparently works well and fast. I’d suggest VirtualBox it is easy to setup and free. Of course it all depends on what you want to use VMs for. ie if you want a desktop solution to run a foreign OS or are you doing an enterprise level install.

Using xen is a bit like riding a dead horse, it lost its support by SUSE
and Redhat, KVM has taken over (disclaimer: I do not use it, I use
simply virtual box for my own needs). It is maybe worth to look at its
documentation.

gogalthorp, martin_helm,

Thank you for your feedback! I think I will explore those two options.
