ENVIRONMENT:
MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5.6
Parallels 3.0.5626 (P4 is in the wings.)
SuSE 10.3 + updates runs fine.
SuSE 11.1 + updates fails to start X11.
ERRORS from /var/log/XOrg.0.log:
(EE) FBDEV(0): FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO succeeded but modified mode
(EE) FBDEV(0): mode initialization failed
Fatal server error:
AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0
GOOGLE RESULT:
PV DomU VNC screen black and Xorg error
PLAN:
Next up is to compare my two /etc/X11/xorg.conf files.
I’m welcome to any ideas or known saves.

Try running sax2 as root and see if you can get it working.
My experience in upgrading from 11.0 to 11.1 made me decide to do a fresh install and everything worked fine.

That was much simpler than trying to modify xorg.conf files by hand! Thanks!
Excuse me, what did you change in xorg.conf?

I didn’t change anything. Whych’s suggestion of using sax2 was sufficient by itself. Log in to the console, su to root, and run sax2.
