X will not start after upgrade to kernel 4.9.0.2

Hello!
For a few days now I have been unable to boot after updating Tumbleweed. During boot I get the following error messages:

[Firmware Bug]: CPU1: APIC id mismatch. Firmware: 11 CPUID: 1
[Firmware Bug]: CPU1: Using firmware package id 1 instead of 0
[Firmware Bug]: CPU2: APIC id mismatch. Firmware: 12 CPUID: 2
[Firmware Bug]: CPU2: Using firmware package id 1 instead of 0
[Firmware Bug]: CPU3: APIC id mismatch. Firmware: 13 CPUID: 3
[Firmware Bug]: CPU3: Using firmware package id 1 instead of 0
[Firmware Bug]: CPU4: APIC id mismatch. Firmware: 14 CPUID: 4
[Firmware Bug]: CPU4: Using firmware package id 1 instead of 0
[Firmware Bug]: CPU5: APIC id mismatch. Firmware: 15 CPUID: 5
[Firmware Bug]: CPU5: Using firmware package id 1 instead of 0
[Firmware Bug]: CPU0: APIC id mismatch. Firmware: 10 CPUID: 0
[Firmware Bug]: CPU0: Using firmware package id 1 instead of 0

After these messages it continues to boot several services normally until it tries to start the X display manager. On this step it pauses for about half a minute. After that the screen flickers and the entire system locks up.

Unfortunately that’s all I know but I would gladly provide any log files that are needed.

i have a similar issue on my T61 Thinkpad. 4.8.14 boots perfectly. but 4.9.0.2 stops and sits instead of going to logon screen. I tried the recovery boot, and it also stops.

Is there a video issue? Let me know if you need any logs.

regards

Uli

tumbleweed with the new kernel 4.9.0-2 default failed to boot on old Toshiba laptop A300 with a radeon display.
Booting quickly stops and returns to the booting screen again and again.
Till 4.8.14, it has been rock-solid.

Regards,

well, good news, my Lenovo thinkpad t61 is now booting with the latest update from today. 4.9.3-1. Not exactly sure what fixed the issue, though.
