X-Server won't start

Hello,
Today I installed openSUSE 11.1 on my second computer (before he was running openSUSE 11.0), the installation was successful (I formated all my hard disk’s) and the computer did a reboot. After this he comes up with the console telling me the following:
“Fatal server error: AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0”
Yes, and that’s all I can login but if I’m trying to start the X-Server (“startx”) I get this error again.
The computer is an AMD64 3400+ and I use the onboard graphics card (a VIA one I think, the mainboard is from MSI).
I don’t have experiences with the console so I don’t know what to do now.
Maybe anybody can help? I would be very pleased about it :wink:

Hi
At the console login, login as root user and run the following commands;

init 3
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
(configure your monitor especially size, dimensions and refresh rates,
see your monitor manual)
init 5 && exit

Now all going well you will have a GUI :slight_smile: To setup the via driver I
recommend the openchrome one, but lets see if that works.

Thank you very much, this worked quite well.
Now I just have to try installing my network (in openSUSE 11.0 it took me days lol).

Hi
Did you install the via driver? If you have network problems, post over
in the network part of the forum :wink:

Well, I just entered the code you gave me, sax2 opened up and I pressed okay and that was it :wink: Now it works. I don’t have a driver for this onboard graphics card^^
Yes my network question I maybe ask later because the problem with my network card I have had before with openSUSE 11.0 but I forgot how to handle this one :shame: and now I’m trying to remind me :wink:
