X Server broken after upgrade to Gnome 3.6

Hi,

Referring to this thread, i have issues after upgrading to 3.6. It broke the X server. And i am not able to see the login screen any more. Run level 3 gives the following error by using startx.

Xauth: file /home/mian/.Xauthority does not exist

Fatal server error:
Cannot move old log file “/var/log/Xorg.0.log” to “/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old”

xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error

.xsession-errors showing the same error like above. I have integrated intel HD 4000 card on i7 Ivybridge.

Hints and help will be apprecaited.

Are you able to boot into failsafe mode okay?

Run level 3 gives the following error by using startx.

Did you attempt this as regular user? That won’t work by default any longer.

Yup, tried as normal user.

You can’t do that by default. What happens if you try to launch the display manager (as root)?

gdm

Tried that and it only showing the green(boot screen) screen with busy mouse cursor.

If you 're really stuck, and have wired internet connectivity at runlevel 3, I’d be inclined to remove the Gnome 3.6 repo(s) again, and try downgrading with

sudo zypper dup

My only problem is that i do not have wired net here, using mobile broadband. Otherwise i thought to do that early, but my bad luck.

What kind of device is it? Maybe we can get you connected with wvdial…

I have made my hp as hotspot atm, i guess would use it as wifi to connect to.
Any ideas to connect to it using wlan0.

First, if you’ve been using network manager, you’ll need to launch YaST (ncurses)

sudo /sbin/yast

Then, follow the advice here:
SDB:WiFi - openSUSE

Good luck.

Is it upstream change or something introduced by openSUSE? After I was doing it for dozen+ years, the change is rather unexpected.
