X Display Manager not opening

So X Display Manager is not opening. I get this detail.

Running: /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp -auth /run/sddm/{316dba25-9ea0-4cf1-9801-6c96e4c8bb4c} -background none -noreset -displayfd 17 -seat seat0 vt7
Failed to read display number
Display server failed to start

thank you for any help.

From where exactly do you get it?

I still get the login prompt. so logging into root and systemctl.

That’s not at all exact. Where & how exactly did you encounter that “Running…” message?

During startup.

"
[FAILED] Failed to start X Dsiplay Manager.
See ‘systemctl status display-manager.service’ for details.
OK ] Started Hold until boot process finishes up.

Welcome to openSUSE Leap 15.2 - Kernel 5.3.18-lp152.26-defaul (tty1).

linux-bbab login:

logging in as root and running that. There is this text and the prompt.

Go ahead and login and do:

susepaste -n wfwood /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Don’t worry if you get an error message. At https://paste.opensuse.org/lists we’ll be able to examine the log’s error messages and hopefully suggest a course of action to solve.

It is uploaded.

The log says:

7.103] (EE) NVIDIA: Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module. Please see the
7.103] (EE) NVIDIA: system's kernel log for additional error messages and
7.103] (EE) NVIDIA: consult the NVIDIA README for details.
sudo Journalctl -b | susepaste -n wfwood

should include the kernel log indicated. Apparently you have failed to properly or fully install proprietary NVidia X drivers for your GPU. Did you try both FOSS X drivers before making your failed attempt? Did it work previously with NVidia drivers, but fail after an update? If the latter, you may wish to try booting a prior kernel, or a system rollback to a snapshot made prior to updating. Also you may do well to visit https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/541438-AMD-Intel-amp-NVidia-X-graphics-driver-primer and SDB:nomodeset: Work Around Graphic Upgrade & Installation Obstacles - openSUSE Wiki before proceeding.

Please paste here using code tags in your next reply output from:

sudo inxi -SGxxxza

I’m not sure if there is an appropriate way to say thank you other than saying just that. I guess I didnt finish the install of the last update, but reinstalling the drivers worked.

Well, there is a “star” symbol below his post
