wrong settings - how to undo?

i am noob and was trying various configurations, after turning on some effect everything turned off and now i see ony mouse cursor.
how to undo that action and changes? i cant even turn the pc off because its a notebook

Yes you can. Just hold down the power button for 4 seconds.

Sounds like your display driver is upset… ctrl+alt+F1 should get you
to a text login? Login and reboot from there.

thanks but what can i do from text mode now?

any option about undoing last config changes?

as for driver, havent installed one yet, gonna have proper one downloaded right now (on another pc)

how can i get access to it (on flash drive) from text mode to perform the driver installation procedure from the guide?

i still remember perfectly working in dos, but no clue how to act in linux yet…

What desktop are you using KDE3, KDE4, Gnome etc?

We could try to set your graphics back to default, if you login then;

su -
init 3
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa
init 5 && exit

Do you get graphics now?

unfortunately, no :frowning:
im using kde4
(however i had gnome installed as well maybe this can help for a while)

the place where i messed things up was not about driver settings but display effects settings - i was trying various windows sets, selected a theme or something like that when it all disappeared

edit: while waiting for any reply i managed even to reinstall OS (lol) with formatting its partition, so it tells me secret lies somewhere in /home

maybe there is just a file(s) i need to erase to restore settings to default?

thanks for help
