Wrong redirection after login request

I start answering post. I write long message. I press “Preview” and am redirected to login page. After login all my message is lost - in the best case I am back at initial content of reply with quoted text, but everything I have been writing for the past half an hour is gone.

It is general problem. Login redirect never returns back to original content. It definitely worked in the past before switching to new identity provider.

And it is not the first time I have lost message that required quite some time and efforts to compose. At which point I just think what the hell, I am not going to waste my time again.

Do you mean that when you start saying “I start answering a post” you are not logged in at that time?
Or d you mean that you are logged in, but that the system asks you to log in again.

I have no idea how to check whether I am logged in (or what exactly “logged in” means). When I access site, it shows my name in the upper right corner, correctly shows visited discussions etc. At random point in time next click will redirect to login window. Sometimes it happens when I press “submit” or “preview”.

I presume there is some timeout after which existing session (cookie?) becomes invalid and new authentication is forced. Unfortunately it happens at random and never goes back to original location after that.

Hm, that is not what I experience. Although some times (rare) during the day Ia m logged out unexpectedly. I always assume there was some hickup (restart) of the server.

But I normally log out at the end of the day and close the browser. This should remove all openSUSE related cookies because they are session cookies.
This will give me a fresh start in the morning when I go to the main page and the use the login. I leave that main page there for the rest of the day, opening other pages either from notification mails, or from that main page (new posts). But I always leave open at least one page on the forum.

I just close notebook lid. I never log out.

That should of course work in theory. But I assume that a log out now and then, to get all cookies removed and possibly clean up a few things on the server side, might help. Maybe less then every day like I do, but nevertheless.

Maybe a reload of the page you have open after restarting work after some longer “closed notebook” time, may show you if the server thinks you are still logged in.

I did not ask for lessons. I reported bug. If you consider normal that I have to behave as if I were on thin ice I’d rather not be using this forum at all.

I have had that happen.

When it last happened, I opened a new TAB to login there. After login in the new browser TAB, I went back to the old TAB (still showing the login page). And I clicked the BACK button – I don’t remember how many time I had to click it, but I got back to the message and didn’t lose anything. But I don’t know if I will be so lucky the next time.

Yes, that worked. Thank you.

P.S. still hoping login redirection will be fixed …

Yes, I would like to see that.

There’s work under way to switch to different forum software. So fixing the current software probably has a lower priority.
