Wow Firefox 5 is fast and uses 1/3 RAM of Google Chrome for 25 tabs!

Firefox 5 Benchmarked - Faster And Better Than Ever Before!

Impressive improvements over Firefox 4!

Also, cold-start time is faster!

I’m using it now and I have 27 tabs open (using Panorama, so they’re split into 5 tab groups) and it’s very responsive, fast and using 480MB RAM.

Hm. Looks promising.

do all the add-ons you were using with the previous version still work?

Yes add-ons I was using with the previous version still work.

Those include:

About startup 0.1.5
Adblock Plus 1.3.8
Console2 0.8b1
Test Pilot 1.1.1
Weather Watcher Live 1.0.17
Web Developer 1.1.9
WebMail Notifier 2.7.8
Chrome Bug 1.7.2
CSS Usage 0.2.4
DOM Inspector 2.0.9
Firebug 1.7.2

Fortunately openSUSE Firefox Extensions 1.0.1 are incompatible with the manually installed version/

Good, bring on the competition. Looking forward to trying it.

Incidentally digitizor uses the dodgy but widespread trick of displacing the origin in a couple of the graphs (SunSpider, HTML5), which makes the differences more stark than they really are.

do you see the same levels of speed increase (and low RAM usage),with
your add-ons, as the OP did? (they can make a big difference–i was
actually trying to learn if maybe the increase he noted was mostly due
to no add-ons yet…)

Yes, but I had to go in to one of them and change the maxVersion to 5.* (I actually changed it to 7.* to be safe for future changes).

So did you need to renice the extensions?

I don’t know what you mean by “renice” but other than that one addon, all the others worked with no updates needed.
