WOW background downloader

I’ve got WOW installed and am working up through the patches. All I’ve got left is the first part of the massive 2.4.3-3.XX one that is supposed to download in the background (with the little blue tornado). I should be able to start WOW, quit, and the tornado should remain on and download the patch. However, it isn’t there when I quit. When I start WOW and my video card settings get reset, I can see the screen briefly and the tornado is there. However, nothing is getting downloaded or written to disk.

I dont know if this would work, but if you are still stuck just turn off the update manager for wow and instead download the patch from this website: Patch mirrors - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft

What I found is that you can go into World of Warcraft directory and run the background downloader manually. It will automatically download the correct file. Only trick is that you have to patiently wait until it is completely finished or it keeps thinking that you have more to download. The current download isn’t being installed, only pre-downloaded for later use.

My last post worked well until it was time for the final download. Now I am getting the error message: “Could not initialize storage. You do not have permission to write to the destination path.”

I’m not sure how to change attributes in Wine, but that could be the problem.
