Would any of you please tell me if OpenSUSE is made to detect the existing partitions on the computers, on which it’s being installed? The last 2 versions of Ubuntu can detect exisiting partition(s) while it’s being installed, but I’m having trouble with Ubuntu. That’s why I’m hoping to use OpenSUSE as an alternative to Ubuntu now.
I want to totally overwrite my current installation of Ubuntu, which is residing on 1 of the 2 partitions on my computer. On my other partition I have Windows XP, which I don’t want to overwrite, yet.
Ever since, I installed Ubuntu 8.04 on that my computer, I have been unable to control the volume-level on my my Dell Inspiron 9100 (with intel/pentium 4 processor).
Thanks in advance to anyone of you, who may share answers regarding my problem.
The opensuse install will definitely see your partitions and will let
you in stall in any that are possible (Linux partitions) and will let
you resize windows partitions if needed, though that’s not required if
there is space elsewhere.
Good luck.

Just point the installer to the ubuntu partition and it will install there it will detect your windows and add it to the boot menu.
The installer won’t remove any partitions unless you tell it to
