OK, I have installed the one click multimedia but I still can’t play a DVD. It opens Totem but the video will not play. Are there more codecs I need to install to make this work?
Travis
PS yes I did restart after the install.

So the number one item you need to play a DVD in libdvdcss. You can open up YaST / Software / Software Management and search for libdvdcss to see if it got installed. Next, I have a bash script file that can be helpful in determining what codecs might be missing. You can find it here:
MultiMedia Checker or mmcheck - Check Your openSUSE MultiMedia Setup in Just 16 Steps
Finally, some issue can arise if you have more than one Optical drive. Check out that possibility here:
Multimedia Optical Drive Naming (ie /dev/dvd & /dev/cdrom) Howto in opneSUSE
Thank You,
Ok, back up. I hate to say it but I am a Newbe to Linux. Is there an easy way to finn out if this is installed? This method seems to be kinda complex. It probably isn’t it’s just I don’t really understand the Linuxfile structure yet.
Travis
DVD’s should play
But have a look at this guide
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide
I I looked at the sticky at the first of the forum but I have not got a chance to do it yet. I As I stated, I am a newbe to Linux and a lot of this is strange. I am to used to windows where everything does it automatically yeton the other hand I have come to hate windows because it seems to get virus’ the Minuit you install it on the hard drive. I just want to get this up and running as a viable operating system.

Travis we understand what you mean about virus’ totally. Using openSUSE may require a little extra effort to get some of those little details working. So hang in there and don’t give up. If you have a specific question, then ask it. General statements that it does not work though provides no hint as to what help you might need. So do your best and we will do the same to help you.
Thank You,
I got VLC up and running, the only thing I had to do is set the buffer higher so the sound and video don’t get out of synch. I hope this solves everything for the moment. I really want to use this OS so I am not deluged with virus’s. Still seem’s to have the same pop-up issue though so they must be part of the web pages.
Travis
All I can say is, there is something very strange about your experience. On every machine in my home, a default install and then Oneclick multimedia and it all just works.
I virtually never see any popup activity in Firefox. I guess we must frequent a very different range of online sites. Those that push popups at you are usually best avoided IMO as it’s very likely they have nothing worth the time of day.
Anyway, did you ever tell us about the spec of your machine?
AMD Athalon 64x2 duel core processor, 2 gb memory, 500 gb sata hard drive, linux is installed on a 250 gb Western Digital external.
I need to set up the pop up blocker in firefox. I think my problem with windows was that I got a virus and never could get rid of it. Wife and daughter like to go to facebook and online video sites.

Let’s try and make sure you are set up properly.
Open a terminal and become su -
(Here is how to be su - ): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Wv-IaDsitA)
Now with your mouse, carefully select this line of code and (still with your mouse use right click to) paste it in the terminal and then hit enter
zypper in lame libavcodec52 libavdevice52 flash-player ffmpeg gecko-mediaplayer libdvdnav4 libdvdread4 libquicktime0 libxine1 libxine1-codecs libxvidcore4 smplayer vlc w32codec-all xine-ui xvidcore
You might want to use a normal terminal to post back to us the result of:
zypper lr -d
and
uname -a
