KDE in use. I have a router dedicated to Wi-Fi. Notebook 1 which runs Ubuntu connects normally. I power it down and turn the router off, then turn the router on again and boot Notebook 2 which was just updated from Leap 42.1 (which worked) to 42.2. It does not connect. Here are the network settings from both notebooks.
Both notebooks use 192.168.1.1 as the default gateway.
I think my “zypper dup” from 42.1 to 42.2 has created massive problems as all of a sudden KDE doesn’t start and is not available from the login menu. I will try a full 42.2 install from a fresh DVD.
Please note. I have already successfully installed another (non-SUSE) distro in order to move on. I find it odd that 42.1 worked as expected but 42.2 doesn’t, and I will eventually get back to diagnosing the problem and re-installing 42.2 but this time I will not do a “dup”, but install from a fresh DVD. I couldn’t do this from the start as the machine lacks a DVD drive. I just bought a USB DVD drive to enable this.
Thanks for the help. I will post the results in the next few days.
Hi
The information you provided doesn’t match up with the MAC address information provided… or are they Atheros but from different manufacturers… I’ve never had an issue with atheros/ath9k…

If not, then this suspiciously sounds like the “randomize MAC-address for
privacy” feature of newer wpa_supplicant (+Network Manager?) version(s)
discussed several times in the past few weaks in these forums.
I’ve never had an issue with atheros/ath9k…

For your information, a little history on my problem with the notebook…
Installed Leap 42.1 (some time ago) and connected.
Updated (zypper dup) Leap 42.1 to Leap 42.2 and NO connection
Installed Linux Mint 18.1 and connected
Bought USB DVD
Booted Knoppix 7.2 via DVD and connected
Installed Leap 42.2 via DVD and NO connection
Installed Tumbleweed (0201) via Netwoork and connected
It’s true I have mostly old machines, a number of them. But installing 42.2 has been a problem on every one I have tried. I haven’t succeeded on at least three different boxes and one notebook, encountering different problems. I have not had a similar problem since version 9.1 from a few years ago. I can live with Tumbleweed and hopefully I can use the next release of Leap.
