1. When I try to start a session, by clicking on Capture>Start, wireshark reports "No capture interface selected!".
2. When I select Edit>Preferences>Capture>Default Interface, there are no interfaces available in the dropdown list. The list is completely blank.
3. When I set Edit>Preferences>Capture>Default Interface to /dev/eth0, I then get the message "Couldn't run /home/myname/Desktop/dumpcap in childprocess: No such file or directory" when I try to run wireshark.
I have been using wireshark and ethereal for years, and have never seen this problem before. Communication via the LAN and wireless devices works fine (but I don't activate both at the same time).
Ideas anyone?

Are you running wireshark as ‘root’ or as a normal nobody user?
Good luck.
