Wirelss cannot connect, debug attached

Hi,

Thanks for any help.

I have installed opensuse 11.3

I am unable to connect to my wireless connection.

KNetworkManager finds the connection (when i scan for connections), i can enter the WEP Hex key, it says it is configured. Goes through its "check list" when you click "ok", and all seems good.

But it won't connect.

When i run "nm-tool" i get:

State: unknown
WARNING **: error: could not connect to NetworkManager

I edited values in:

linux-2ys8:/home/sam # vi /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.state

to “true”

running rcnetwork restart, output was:

**

Any help is appreciated.

With WEP you need to enter the complete key. Not the passphrase
Is that what you have done?

Hi,

Yes, i entered the complete Hex key.

Have tried without encryption or with WPA instead?

I have tried all combinations of keys and encryption. Its my home network, wich has not changed in 2 years. Its got to be an opensuse thing, but i dont know what - hence me coming on here to see if someone who knows opensuse, can look at my output and see whats going on.

You need user @lwfinger

HI,

What does that mean? I know you’re trying to help, but surely, the logs / output must mean something to someone?

Many thanks.

I mean lwfinger is an expert

In the meantime please post your wireless info from this:

/sbin/lspci -nnk

Your initial message shows that NetworkManager cannot run because the Dbus
server is not available. That is a serious problem, and I have no idea how that
could happen.

Are you keeping this system in a single location, rather than moving around? If
so, switch to ifup control, rather than NM. That does not need Dbus.

As I am not sure what else a Dbus problem will break, you should also look into
upgrading to 11.4. That seems a better route than reinstalling 11.3.

Hi,

thanks for your help.

This is in a single location. Its a new install of 11.3 (i was previously running 11.1 for around a year).

I already checked / activated the ifup option in the NM interface, in fact, its what i currently have running.

So a fresh install of 11.4 is the only option :frowning:

seems a bit bad. This is a new install of 11.3, its literally the first thing i tried was to get wireless working, and i cant.

Is the 11.4 download even working?

software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 11.4 RC 2

it fails for me (64 bit)

Hi there

I am running Opensuse 11.4 (x64) and it auto upgraded its software only to yield the same error (DBus server not found) as what the initial post contained!

Any clue how to go about fixing this?
What logs and debug do you need, and how do I get them?

I really hope I dont have to reinstall and reconfig!
