Wireless USB adapter

Hi,

I have troubles installing and using my wireless usb adapter which should be compatible with Linux.
The driver should be RTL8188/8192

There is openSUSE 13.2 on my laptop, I bought this adapter because the default one are broken.

How can I use this adapter?

I assume you missed the Wireless forum here. In that forum there are also a few hints on what to post in the sticky threads.

This will be moved to Wireless and is CLOSED for the moment.

Moved fom Hardware and open again.

What make and model is the USB adapter? Sometimes the manufacture changes the chip for a new revision and it should still be Linux compatible, just need a little work to get it going.
I have Asus USB-N13, advert says it uses RALink chip but since it’s a newer revision it actually has Realtek RTL8192cu chip. Also on my laptop the built in wifi card died so I just got a cheap USB one for now. It is a TP-Link WN823N and uses the same chip as the Asus one does. Both are working just fine in openSUSE 13.2 KDE 64 bit

I had to use the following work around
https://forum.teksyndicate.com/t/realtek-8192cu-opensuse-13-2/76555/6

Seems that Realtek doesn’t like to play well with Linux… or best for advanced users.

What make and model is the USB adapter?

I think this one:

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0bda:818b Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

Didn’t know if it makes a difference or not.

This is what I see for my TP-Link adapter

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0bda:8178 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8192CU 802.11n WLAN Adapter

The Asus one (which uses same chip) says AsusTek WLAN RTL8192. I can log on that machine and copy/paste the exact readout for it if need be.

Either way, both work fine with the driver ‘fix’ that is done in the link I provided. I get 95% - 100% signal even 2 floors away from the router and they both get full speed. Have downloaded Linux .iso files at 1.5 - 1.8 Mbps (about 10 minutes or less to download 4.7GB).

I have attempted to compile my own from source (using the available download from Realtek) and it never completely works. Connection will establish but drops off and disconnects every few minutes.

Just thought I’d mention this since I see it’s about RTL8192 (think it’s using the 8188 for my onboard LAN which shows as Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express)

You have a different Wlan-Adapter as the TE ones.

So please if you have Problems, make a differnet thread.
