I would like to buy a wireless router for my home network. Are any models work better with linux than other models? I am looking for something inexpensive but dependable. Any suggestions? I will appreciate your advice.
(I am using OpenSuse11.1. GNOME)
Generally, it is not the router but the wireless card on your computer is the culprit.
Do you mean it does not matter which router to use as long as the card works?
I’ve been happy with a $30 linksys for over 4 years now.
Yes, in most cases, the card gives the problem. You have to verify that the card you have (or going to purchase) should have Linux driver. Some cards use the ndiswrapper driver, but if you are going to buy a new one, make sure that you buy the right one that has Linux driver support.
I have never come across a wireless router that can not be connected to a Linux machine. However, some routers insists that you need a Windows machine to configure it! But, that is not true, almost all of them can be configured via any browser interface.
