Wireless printer keeps changing its IP

Hi folks,

I am running OpenSuse 12.1 (3.1.9-1.4-desktop x86_64) and operate an HP Officejet 4500 Wireless printer.
Wireless printing works fine using HPLIP, however the printer changes its IP from time to time and then I have to reinstall the printer…
Does anybody have a clue how to prevent this?

Thanks

I think you should try to setup your router/DHCP server to give the printer (identified by its MAC) every time the same IP-address.

If your router does not support MAC-based IP assignment, then your other option
is to give it a fixed address outside the range used by DHCP on the router. My
network printer is wired, but that is the method I use. When I set it up, the
router I was using at the time had very limited capability.

Giving it a fixed IP-address should be possible in your printers advanced network settings, compare:
HP Officejet 4500 (G510) All-in-One series : User Guide on page 198-199 (=page 203-204 of 228).

Good luck!
