Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide

Are you using network manager or ifup to control networking?
I have found that changing the network settings (via yast2>network to use traditional ifup (in the general tab) and then OK) helps.
Now go back to network devices>network and setup the wirless network card. It should at least scan the network for wireless networks.
Once this has been set, you can once again enable network manager. Reboot and it should see the wireless networks.
If you still have problems, look at the first 2 threads in: http://forums.opensuse.org/network-internet/wireless/

I changed it to ifup with no avail. I was working though some of the other faqs and got it to see wireless networks but it wouldnt connect. Once I restarted it was back to not working.

The funny thing is through the liveCD (before I installed) the wifi worked flawlessly.
