Wireless not configured on install of Open Suse Leap

I have been a user of Ubuntu almost from its inseption. Upgrades often mean something new is broke. This last one was a duzy so I decided to try Suse Leap in the hope of finding somethign more stable.

I was unable to configure the wireless network during install so I pressed forward without internet in the hope that the problem might be more easily corrected after install. I installed with the KDE desktop. KDE is also knew to me since I have be using Gnome for years.

Here is what I know so far:

When I mouse over the network manager in the system tray, it says “Disconnected”.

I ran lsusb and got:
Ralink Technology, Corp RT5572 wireless adapter

dmesg produced:
Product: 802.11 n WLAN
Manufacturer: Ralink

In running iwconfig, I discover what appears to be trouble:
ESSID: off/any
Mode: Managed
Access Point: Not Associated

I am not sure what actions I should take next. All assistance will be appriciated.

Well, that’s a good sign that your hardware is detected, but not yet associated with your access point. Did you try creating a connection with NetworkManager yet?

This just confirms the above. So, configure your wireless network connection as explained in this guide…
